Al-Bashir's new 'peace'tactic is a sham, designed to sideline ICC indictment. Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir is obviously feeling the heat. In an effort to sideline the impending ICC indictment against him for mass atrocity crimes including genocide, al-Bashir announced a ceasefire by government forces in the devastated Darfur region. He is now calling for rebels to join in peace negotiations. But Darfur's rebel groups have good reason to dismiss al-Bashir's overtures for peace. At least 300,000 have died and nearly 3 million have been displaced as a result of al-Bashir's assaults upon civilians in the Darfur region. No one should be fooled by these new "peace' tactics which Human Right Watch described as "window dressing.
